REDD+ Training Workshop 2019

Training Workshop on Low Carbon Development Opportunities created by Forestry Carbon Project

Venue: Siem Reap, Cambodia

Date: 16 – 23 March 2019 (3 days for fieldwork and 5 days for in-class lectures)

Organizer: Institute of Biology, Medicine and Agriculture, Royal Academy of Cambodia

Creating low-carbon development opportunities and related income sources for forest dependent communities is crucial for achieving the Paris Climate Agreement and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and beyond. Although REDD+ projects could provide such opportunities, previous REDD+ projects focus mainly on forest patrolling. This workshop is designed to provide capacity building on identification of low-carbon development opportunities arising from the implementation of REDD+ project activities introduced to reduce the drivers and agents of drivers of deforestation and forest degradation in and around the REDD+ project sites. Discussions will be emphasis on how to implement such activities, potential sources of incomes, and where to look for financial support. Totally, 36 participants will be invited from the ASEAN member states to share and discuss their experience through in-class lectures, break-out sessions and fieldwork.
